HOW TO HANDLE GOING BUST IN POKER

You know it has happened, you sit down with $100 playing 1/2 No limit and no matter if your up for the moment in a flash your gone, now you have two options get up and leave or reach back into your bankroll if you are so lucky to even have one. Before you realize what’s happened 3 hours later your dreams of building a full bankroll and having some money for yourself are gone. Where left going over the hands we ha, the folds we should have made, or even take more time during hands to think things through. Back to working our day jobs or worse, looking for someone to stake you, or look for a job in general.

The best thing we can do with failure is learn from it. What can we do to improve ourselves at what we do in life or in this case on the felt? For some of us it is back to our yoga, tai chi, and the gym, maybe even a fast or a natural detox to improve our mental function to be sharper at the table. Not like it is going to hurt it will improve our lives and add years to it as well if it is done regularly. I know from my personal experience that when I am at peak health I make better reads at the table, I can play for longer and make more money. The old saying is that we play the person, that is the guy holding the cards not the cards themselves. People come from all walks of life and we never know who were going to be sitting down with at a poker table. Some games on weekends in no limit hold em are not what they appear to be. A 1/2 can play like a 5/10 on any given hand, that is why no limit is still considered the Cadillac of poker. That’s what makes it enticing, and the glitz and glamour of winning a tournament along with the money makes it a real gamblers game; where anyone can win, and the most skilled win consistently which shows you it is a game of skill.

My personal advice is to always rework your game, I know I will be practicing and improving my health and keeping calm and cool at the table. The rewards of poker are worth It if you have passion, patience, and knowledge to succeed. Maybe it’s time to read some of those poker books we have not read, and if you do not do it already some yoga to improve your life and your game. A lot of pros take good care of their health which ups their game to another level. Meditation will bring a clarity in our lives that makes us have better decisions in life as well as in poker, where decision making is critical. To be the best you need to be making better decisions than everyone else. Making the rite calls and all the rite lay downs as well as the making bets that are going to keep us cashing in. Not as easy as it seems and the daunting feeling of losing the roll we built up after several sessions can be a weight on someone.

Don’t lose your mind over it just sit down in a comfortable seated position, breath deep into the abdomen, hold the breath, let it out, and hold the exhale for a few seconds, and do it again and count each breath. Every time you inhale breath in positive and exhale negativity. Any thought coming to your mind exhale it out to balance the emotions and thoughts so we can slow down and take our time.

Patience is key to being successful on the table so practice more patience not just when you go bust. Meditate daily and feel better. See you on the felt.
