I started yoga when I was 16 years old. I remember I was heavy into bodybuilding and power lifting and then I took a yoga class. It was difficult and at the end of class I fell into a peaceful sleep. 20 years later I am still doing yoga, I am a certified instructor and every time I need to unwind and get my mind focused and relaxed I start yoking.
The end of class is always very euphoric, and I feel lighter than before, my mind, body, and spirit all feel rejuvenated and I am left with a sense of awe about life. I am always in a nice cozy state and people always ask me why I am so calm in tense situations and that is defiantly the yoga.
The practice of yoga and the philosophy of yoga disciplines go hand in hand. I practice letting go of desire and excessive want and need. I feel okay with not being able to have the things I want even though I do not need them. My desires for things seem to dissipate and I am happy with being in the moment and those tense situations are not that tense, they are just life struggles which are made easier because I practice yoga.
By now I should tell you that I have my own personal practice that can be a quick 20 or 30-minute sessions or session that can go for 4 hours. You do not need to be flexible to get the benefits I am talking about. The poses I perform are simple and even if you never done yoga before you can do them. They are the sun salutation series and the kundalini 7 chakra cleansing set. If I want to make my session longer I just had more and longer vinyasa after my sun salutations.
Another thing that I noticed, is that pranayama is not regularly practice or taught is some studios. A pranayama and meditation practice can do wonders for our health. I know when I am sick I always include some pranayama in my practice.
I know that when I am not on a regular schedule of doing yoga life gets difficult, but when I practice every day I am always on a euphoric high, always happy to do what needs to get done. It’s a wonder why where not teaching these arts to children in our schools. It is training that everyone should have.
It is important to mention that I also practice other arts known as Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Now if you’re like me and love to do all three you know it can get kind of difficult to stick to these arts every day and practice consistently. It would easily take up 2 hours of your time a day but I can guarantee you that a daily practice of Yoga, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi will make you have levels of blissful consciousness that will make your soul soar to new heights as well as giving us the confidence to conquer any obstacles life puts our path.
